FWIW, It is not necessarily the width but the longest length on the sensor (which will usually be width). So for your micro four thirds camera that is 17.3mm x 13mm the 17.3 is the longest. Similarly, on a 35mm camera with a sensor size of 35.9mm x 24mm, 35.9mm is the longest.
